Our History
Alpha Delta Pi holds the distinction of being the first secret society in the world for college women. Established in 1851, Alpha Delta Pi is committed to sisterhood, values and ethics, high academic standards and social responsibility. Our story begins at Wesleyan Female College in Macon, Georgia, where six incredible women changed the world. The original name of the sorority was the "Adelphean Society."
The word "Adelphean" is derived from the Greek word meaning sister. The qualifications for membership have remained unchanged through the years - scholarship, leadership, service to others, and sisterhood. Today there are over 180,000 initiated members worldwide and more than 130 collegiate chapters throughout the United States and Canada.
Our chapter was recolonized at Wake Forest University in 2009, and since then, we have continued to grow in number and spirit. We are a diverse group of women who are active in both the Wake Forest and Winston-Salem communities. Our emphasis on academics has led to a Chapter Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.71. From Campus Kitchen shifts to the Dance Company recitals to Student Union events, Eta Upsilon sisters are doing big things!
